This program displays images of echo statistics created using a program package by Donaldson and Patterson. The "raw program" runs on a machine running URP and it gathers up all META files in 5-day periods of each month, e.g. March 1-4, March 5-9, etc., for a particular URP product, typically PPIs of DBZ and DBT. It then builds distributions of observed reflectivities at every pixel. The analysis program gathers up 5-day statistics periods in a particular year/month and makes multiple statistics: mean reflectivity, median reflectivity, mean rainfall rate (MP), percent of NULL observations, percentage of observations above a threshold, etc.

Here are histograms of data gathered for all rays at a given range and plots of averages as a function of azimuth at a given range.

The units of the distribution have no simple interpretation. The total counts of each DBZ byte value at each range are divided by the number of files and an empirical scaling factor is applied to give values that run in the range 0 to 100, as a convenience for plotting. Intercomparison of plots shows meaningful changes, even if individual plots do not have meaningful values.

Statistic types:

• ● Range mean narrow: same as range mean, but narrower range of displayed values
• ● Range histogram 50km: Range histogram, for only our reference range of 50km
• ● Range histogram 50km low: display focused on low values (looking at tails)
• ● Range histogram 50km MRS: focused on Minimum Reported Signals at 50km
